On the positive side

After finishing getting ready for the day, I came out of the bathroom to this.

Makes a mother's heart warm.

And we came up with this cute idea for Ad's valentines.

Originally came up with these in order not to buy valentines (I don't know, sometimes when it comes to 'saving' money I'm an idiot). They are free (from scraps), only now we need to buy a treat to go in them... Anyway, at least she will have something original and hand made, and they are so easy and fast to make. I think they would also be great to put a gift card in for other occasions. Only seven or eight more to sew!
The boys? They get storebought Scooby Doo or something. There is only so much you can do, and these ended up really feminine cute like.

oh my gosh, those are so cute! How do you make them? I have a friend from work coming over to do a valentine craft, and those would be perfect. Actually, maybe not, because she is bringing her 11 year old daughter and her friend, and we don't have enough sewing machines. But dang cute! Awesome.

o.k. here's the best of my abilitie to explain them. You take two small rectangles of fabric (about 2" by 3.5") and do a rolled hem across one 2" side on each. This will be the top. Then you take a 1.5"-2" strip (um longer than three sides so you can fold around corners and fold down ends) and iron it in half, then open it, iron the sides into the middle, fold in half again and re-iron. So you should have one long strip in 4ths. Then with the rectangles wrong sides together you place the strip over the edge, folding down the end so it looks finished (like binding a quilt kinda), the rectangles' edges are then inside the 'mountain fold' of the strip and you just sew all the layers together at once, folding the corners as you go (also like binding a quilt, yet not as acurately), and folding a small amount down on the other end so it is finished along the top. Lastly, you fold the whole thing in half and cut a whole just below the top seam (like a button whole) through all layers and using whatever is left from your strip for the border, thread it through the holes and tie. Seriously easier than it sounds and faster to do than to type. We ended up putting a 'hug' and a 'kiss' in each of them.

those reading young men warmed my heart, too. cute bags, If I was crafty and still gave out valentines at school, I would totally try it. I keep putting off all crafty endevours until the summer. yeah, like that's going to happen. But at least I don't have to worry about it now, right?
